With a $39 price tag, I took it.

I panicked when I couldn't find the start menu. When I thought I had to spend my entire time in Metro mode. When I thought my computer just became a glorified tablet with no touchscreen. :(

I was kinda wrong.

It's really not all that bad. Even-though I thought I made a big mistake at the beginning, I've come to realize that I was just clinging to things that didn't really matter.

You might have heard all the horror stories regarding the missing Start Button or the weird touch interface. And they're true. It was pretty terrifying until I took the time to sit back and understand Windows 8.

I'm not gonna go into details but there's 2 things that helped me out : Telling myself that the start menu is now a start screen and understanding that Metro and desktop are 2 different environments (sort of) that run their own types of application.
Turns out you really don't need the start menu!

There is however, one thing that still pisses me off... Microsoft, why do you have to make owning a Wacom (or any other kind of) tablet a nightmare?? I mean, it's not as bad as it was on windows 7 where you had to do a whole lot of tweaking to get rid of the the horrible pen tablet features. But it's still a chore.
Why can't you turn off the dynamic feedback?? I mean come on! It's a good thing it's not present in most stylus enabled applications but I still don't like it. For those of you who need help with this issue, Check out this site.

So, did you take the plunge? Or are you gonna wait around a little longer? or stick with XP?

Finally something worth a journal entry!

Masaaki Yuasa of MINDGAME fame set up a Kickstarter fund for his short film KICK HEART.

I'm a big fan of his work. I'd love to see more japanese animation studios turn to crowdfunding as it's would help sell and encourage the unfiltered versions of one's vision.

It's been up for a while now and it's close to its goal but not quite there yet! I'd like to ask you for your support as this dude's pretty freaking awesome.

So I recently caved and joined the social bandwagon.

I've set up a Twitter account on Twitter and a Tumblr

I'm using Tumblr to post quick sketches and Twitter to.. well... say uninteresting stuff :D I'll even post new pencil tests and straight ahead animations on Tumblr now that I have some time to myself!
Actually, I'll probably use it as my main blogging platform and convert my site to something a little more professional down the road.

So follow me if you like! (I post my tumblr updates on twitter, so you don't want to sign up for an account if you don't want to)

I checked out TCAF for the first time today. It was pretty sweet! I really wasn't expecting such a huge thing. For some reason I thought it'd be a bit more chill, more like artists hanging out. I got a bunch of great books from some awesome folks. If you're in Toronto, you should definitely check it out. I might try getting a spot next year with some other Capy artists.

I kinda regret not buying more books. I also regret not getting a painted portrait by Joe Bluhm although I think I made the right choice since my face looked ghastly thanks the burst capillaries from yesterday's binge drinking.

I must have looked like such a douche walking around indoors with my sunglasses. :p

Hey folks! Some of the artists at Capybara Games have done some fan art of "Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP"  in light of its PC release on Steam (and very soon on Mac) store.steampowered.com/app/204… .

Superbrothers and Capy have also set up a tumblr featuring artwork and music inspired by the game (Like "Adventure Time"'s Pendleton Ward!).
Soon you'll be able to sumbit your own stuff so click here to follow the Tumblr!!

My contribution's more on the risque and macabre side. So it's cropped on the Tumblr. If you don't have a deviant art account, you probably won't be able to see it. Check out the full version here if you can't see it:

Follow the tumblr for more awesome art from other Capy and non-Capy artists! And get the game! :)

Critter Crunch on PSN Announced!

Journal Entry: Tue May 12, 2009, 8:54 PM

Heya folks!

I haven't had a chance to update in a while but now I finally have an excuse as to why! :P

Critter Crunch has finally been announced on the Playstation Blog as a downloadable PSN title for the Playstation 3.

Check out the HD video on Vimeo!!!
And these pictures at IGN!

A little under a year ago, I joined up with independent game studio Capybara Games to work on their first PlayStation Network title. I've been working on this game as the character designer and animator ever since! The beautiful backgrounds are the work of my awesomely talented colleague and fellow Frenchman Slyve who has yet to join DA! (c'mon man, your stuff rocks!)

Critter Crunch is puzzle game that "will feature single player modes like adventure & puzzle, as well as online and local multiplayer in versus & co-op flavors, with a plethora of fancy trophies to collect. It also has lots of really pretty 1080p art that should make your HDTV happy." (quote from Kris on Playstation Blog)

I'm not sure how much more info I can divulge but our team's worked pretty hard at making this a super fun and pretty game all for your enjoyment :)

It's that time again... time for new seasons of your favorite series!

Since I don't watch much TV, except for movies and series( and cartoons from time to time ) it's good to know that I can sit down a be a couch potato for a reason.

The only recent series I'm currently interested in are Dexter and House. I'm also taking quite a liking to True Blood.

I'm not a big fan of Heroes but I'll watch it anyways :P

I gotta say though, I'm so glad Dexter's back on. The only other series that makes me this giddy to watch are Battlestar Galactica and Lost.

I've heard good things about Weeds... So maybe I'll give that a try one day :P

What are some of your favorite series?

Whoo! Hi there!

No, it's not the ghost from Christmas Past, it's just me and I'm trying to get back into DA. I can see that it has changed. A LOT (at least it's still green).

I can't believe that my last journal entry was a little more than 2 years ago! Haha, wow, time flies.

I got to go to the 2008 CN Expo in Toronto this year. Seeing all the cool stuff from the many DA artists that attended the expo has rekindled my flame for DA.

I'm looking through the deviations and I'm stunned at the awesome stuff everyone's been producing! I gotta get back in the game! :P

Anyway, I'll be updating a little more regularly from now on. For those of you who have been following me on my website, you might see some familiar stuff. For those of you who didn't, you'll see some new stuff! :)

Ja Ne ~!
Here I am on my bi- or trimonthly of DeviantArt! yay!

Ok so it's been long time since I've done anything here. At all! I should probably point out that I'm concentrating more on my website and that I update it regularly (plus there's no one to censor my stuff bu me). so check it out :

www.theroughsketch.com

My chances of replying to questions or comments on DA have become preeeeetty slim... especially since every time I look at the 1,500+ messages I need to check, my replying mood dies... lol sorry TT___TT I'll get to it one day! promise!

Other than that, quite a few things have happened in the last few months:

There's plans to go to Japan with 4 of my dearest friends sometime in May. I still haven't seen or heard about any of the plans but it looks like we'll have ourselves a grand tour! I'm so buying soiled panties... lol for a friend... *ahem*

On the other hand, I might not go at all TT____TT.

It seems I'm sick even though I don't feel it... lol It's been close to a month now, but I've been diagnosed with a rare form of Cancer (esp for my age). I won't denote as I've told only my closest friends and family the details.
I had the tumor removed 2 weeks ago so I've been stuck at home not doing much except regular commutes to the hospital.

Omg... Hospitals.. All I gotta say is that they just make you wait... and wait... and wait... and wait.... I swear... what took 2 weeks to do could have taken 4 days...

Anyway, I was never worried about it to begin with and I'm told my chances of survival are high. However there's 1 thing that ticks me off more than anything in the world:
If I have to start treatment asap, I won't be able to go to Japan with my friends!!! NOOOooooooo!!! TT___TT
What's the point of going later if I can't go with friends?

So yeah, that's pretty much the main things that happened ^^) I also want to thank all the people who've sent me flowers and candy :D thanks!! *eats handfull of M&M's*
And Todd from Roxbox who sent me the awesome volume 5 of ROBOT! Thank you so much!

So what shall we see in the near future? Well I'm still working on Voltage, I'll have something for Crocworks (doctaj.hokuten.net/CW/) and there are other projects looming in the distance. :)

So I'm off for now! lol Looks like I'll check in in 2 or 3 more months unless I get down and dirty with the replying XD (better start checking the website lol)

Tchuss~!
I.... I live.... TT___TT)

HEY! it's been a while! since anything! lol

I hadn't cheked my DA account since december! lol So I got a lot of messages and deviations to go through... T__T

I 've been stuck in a cave for the past 3 months.... All I had were my dead friends and rats to survive... Everyday I continuously punched the wall that stood between my freedom and I...

Aaaa~ forget it.. lol I can't even make up a cool story...

Anyway, my website has been back up since early January (www.theroughsketch.com) and I've been posting a lot of stuff on the lint trap as well (linttrap.theroughsketch.com)

Other than that, I've had a lot of work. I finished a bunch of commission last month and I've been in contact with a company in Singapour for the last 3 weeks. And now, I just started colouring a  limited series comicbook that's been in the works for 2 years (and yes.. it's gonna kick ass). Unfortunatly, this is my last semester and I have to work on my portfolio animations!!!! NOOOOOOOOOooooooooo....
This is most definetly super crunch time.....
HA... and I'm also trying to draw an H doushinji in time for  Anime North... mmm... I don't even know if they're selling spots right now....

Oi... and I have SO MANY deviations to go through T___T aie aie...

Looks like I can't leave DA just yet... lol.

Here's a recap :  WEBSITE is back on.. LINT TRAP is active.... WORK is happening... WORKLOAD is heavy... I LOVE ANIMATING.... AND H MANGA soon! (Hentai has closure...)

AAAh! lateness

Journal for the hell of it

Fri Sep 2, 2005, 6:02 PM
Aaaah!~~~

I thought I'd post just for the heck of it. So mostly random stuff.

Let's see, anyone seen the sixth One Piece movie? I gotta say, it friggin' fantastic. I watched it without understanding a single goddamn thing that they said (no subtitles) but It was f-in' great!
Hosoda (A ghibli guy that was supposed to direct Howl's moving castle - He also directed the digimon movies) really did a nice job on this one. The character animation is top notch as well as the acting and the timing!! The shot composition and layout is very impressive at times! (although there is like one CG sequence i didn't really like...). I really wish there were move fight scenes in it... but it's still pretty entertaining. I can't wait till it comes out on dvd! (the files I got had a pretty crappy video quality)

I'm still working on my website... lol yes... But I'm actually working on it! (when I have some spare time)
I'll post up a coming soon page

It's kind of annoying when you actually have to manage different things during spare time, don't you think?

I have a few commissions I need to finish TT__TT as well as some more time consuming things to do...

Since I don't know what else to tell you, I'll just tell you about some of the books I got in the last few months or so:

- Tsukasa Bullet Special 00 image portfolio. It's pretty cool! it's got around 15 Prints and a book with each of the prints sketches!

- The IFS Artbook! yaaaay It's got some kick ass work from DA's very own, as most of you already know > 3<

- One Range Murata Sketch book, the Tempao Second edition of Pasta Estab

- Range Murata's Spheres + and an autographed copy of this year's Spheres ++

Damn.. I'd write more but I have to go >___<

I want to see "NANA" the movie TT 3TT) (yes .. I like the manga...)

Fobbin' it up

Thu Aug 4, 2005, 3:32 PM
Let's see, there's no real point to this post but meh...

I hate work and I'm soooooo bored T____T.

I'll have to say that considering the conditions I'm working under, I'm greatful because I know there's always someone who's job's shittier -___-) (ie konako - wtf 12 hours a day??? surrounded by kids???!? sue the bitches!)

I have some free time right now and I'm trying to think about what I'm going to do... lol let's see...

- I have a bunch on video games I haven't played since.. good God... April...T_T So maybe I can pop a disc in my dying PS2 and play till whenever. (I gotta finish fatal frame 1!!! then start 2!! then start 3!!)

- I'm feeling that drawing itch comming so I'm also thinking about drawing something... But my hand already hurts from the previous drawings I made =__= or maybe from shooting too many airplanes...

Random stuff :

FOB phone.:o
oshimagun's phone is the single most FOB piece of equipment on this planet XD. Ok, I'm sure there's more but holy crap... I was pretty surprised when he oppened it and it said "I love You". Out of all the things it could say lol... let's not mention the mysterious "Thank you" that leaves you wondering what exactly you're supposed to be thanked for...
You gotta love his menu screen too... it's filled with random music videoclips of incredibly happy girls doing the peace sign and breakdancing dudes. The best part though is the menu selection voice... lol oh man... imagine "message" "multimedia" "call log" and other's said with a heavy chinese accent... lol really heavy. Imagine a female Russel Peters doing it.
I won't talk about the ringtones lol. All I will say is that i've been listening to the wrong version of happy birthday my whole life :D

Ikea:)
Ikea rules whether you're planning to buy something or not. I am trying to clean up my little studio/music room/computer room/closet.
I have reorganised my mangas, Artbooks, Dvds and Games. Thank you Ikea! (Nice Gai Pose)
I think I'll go back to the store just to kill time.:o

Lint Trap Sketchbook:
This has been an ongoing project ever since day 1. However gathering enough material isn't always that easy lol (esp if you post every thing online.. lol)
Since the other members haven't had time to do much yet, Quinby and I have been thinking of releasing something. Double Q or Double Qill (super cheesy I know)... working titles lol.
If the Lint Trap does release a sketchbook, I'd expect it to be big. like, a lot of pages big. at least more than 200 (nudges the other guys... c'moooon):p

Btw, Please check out the Lint Trap regularly. We've been updating a lot these last few days. We'd love it if you commented! We want to know what you think. </end plug>

I'm baaaaack!

Thu Jul 28, 2005, 7:04 PM
Hi guys!
After a lengthy trip, I'm finally back home!

I've seen and talked to a lot of people, drank a lot, ate a lot, drove a lot, ate a lot, drank a lot, drov- wait.. yeah

I gotta say it was a pretty good trip. I mean, with so many things to celebrate within a limited number of days, what could go wrong?

Well, one of the only things I can complain about is the few times I had to share a room with the parents =__= honestly, all we do is complain when we're together... for stupid things too lol.
The other is the fact that I hardly had any time to draw T___T. Whenever I found a clear table/rock/napkin/staircase, I'd draw as much as I could. I need my fix man!!!! Honestly though, I miss drawing on paper... lol I should do it more often. It gets too annoying drawing posters digitally.. you tend to get lazy and forget most details.
Finally... hardly any internet access where I went T___T I wish I had a laptop!!!

The cool part was that I got to see my cousins, uncles, aunts, grandmother, friends, friends of friends and friends of my parents who always started a conversation with "oooh! you were this small *hand motion down* when I last saw you!" :D
And oh man... did I eat... holy crap... I must have gained 10 Kg... well.. not that much but it feels like it @__@) I need to shave it off fast! TT___TT *pokes belly*.... it's still moving T_____T

Well, there's a lot of things I did but I'm not going to bore you with the details (at least not here). What I WILL tell you is that I'm working on my web site... AGAIN... and it's almost done... but I'm already kinda bored with the design... AGAIN ... eventhough no one's seen it! lol Seriously, I suck at designing...help?
